Government Proposes Rs838 Billion for BISP in Next Fiscal Year

The government has proposed allocating Rs680 billion in grant assistance for various initiatives, including support for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

An amount of Rs 71 billion has been allocated for the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Scheme. Additionally, Rs8 billion has been earmarked to expand the Export Refinance Scheme, which is expected to support the growth of the country’s exports.

The government also plans to expand the coverage of BISP’s flagship programmes. As part of this initiative, the Kafalat Programme will be extended to 12 million families to provide greater financial assistance to deserving households.

Furthermore, the Educational Scholarships Programme will be expanded to benefit approximately 9.2 million children nationwide.

For the upcoming fiscal year, the government has proposed an allocation of Rs838 billion for BISP, representing a 17 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Under the proposed expenditures, Rs146 billion has been allocated for Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Rs88 billion for Gilgit-Baltistan, and Rs95 billion for the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
